Signal Hill Annual Meeting Results
Signal Hill District held its Annual Meeting November 14 at Saint Frances Desales Church, in Lake Zurich. The Nominating Committee has worked hard to fill our positions and make scouting much better and deeper in terms of the number of volunteers involved. This year's Chairman was Al Knox and committee members consisted of Frank Moriarty, Tavis Tackett, Ryan Julian, Lori Motisi, Sue Minott, Mayor James and Signal District Director Pete Stikovich. Congratulations to the following Officers for volunteering to serve scouting for the 2003 year, as they were elected at the Annual Meeting: Frank Moriarty District Chairman; Bob Bell Vice Chair of Boy Scouts; Mike Gutschick Vice Chair of Cub Scouts; Joanne Bilas Vice Chair of Venturing; Bob Mann Vice Chair of Training; Lori Motisi Vice Chair of Membership; Tavis Tackett & Al Knox Scouting Power and Elaine Masciale was recommended to the Council Board as District Commissioner. The District warmly thanks all our Officers for their service during the 2002 year.
Friends of Scouting Leadership Breakfast (Community Campaign) Table Hosts Needed
NWSC is once again preparing for another successful and fun Leadership Breakfast to lead the way in our 2003 “Community FOS Campaign”. NWSC started this first time event for our Council, back in February 2002. The Leadership Breakfast is an opportunity for individuals to help us stretch our networking abilities and accurately share the positive scouting story, with businesspersons and companies not familiar with scouting. The objective of the event is to help further fund NWSC with “new dollars” raised, through the venue of an event being held February 21, 2003. The morning will include a dynamic keynote speaker and hundreds of adults in attendance. At this time, Signal Hill is diligently seeking to secure as many “Table Hosts” as possible to help gain attendance at this event. In brief, a table Host would be an individual or company that can help secure some fiends, colleagues, business partners, vendors, or anyone at all that is willing to make a 2003 pledge to the BSA and help promote the Breakfast Event. If you know of any prospects, or would be interested yourself, please do not hesitate to call Signal Hill District Director Pete Stikovich (847) 854-4225.

New Unit Updates!
Congratulations to the Chicagoland Scuba, located in Lake Zurich, for chartering a brand new Scuba Crew that promises to be quite exciting for co-ed youth ages 14 – 20. George Clos is the Venture Crew Advisor and Mark Freshour is the Committee Chairman with Crew 98. The Signal Hill District appreciates their volunteerism in this program. This high adventure program is open to any interested youth and you can feel free to call Mark Freshour in Lake Zurich at 847-540-6972 or George Clos in Palatine at 847-366-5259 to find out more about the program. Teens are now planning outings and visits to interesting scuba related facilities that might peak your interest. Oh yes, and of course, scuba diving will be part of the activities in this Crew! Come join the fun and spread the word. You don't have to have scouting experience nor do you have to be a certified scuba diver, to join in on the fun!
Fall Round Up Information
A special thanks goes out to all our packs for conducting fall round-up nights. A very “special” thanks goes to those that went the extra mile to extend the opportunity to join scouts with an additional round-up session in November, at their pack meeting. This was very important to all youth that missed the original round up in September, or simply lost their flyer given to them. Oh, yeah, and “another” thank you is given to packs that conducted spring a-n-d fall recruiting nights! The Signal Hill District appreciates your willingness to conduct our much-needed round-up sessions and help market our fantastic programs as much as possible within our school systems. This is important with the many competitive options that youth can now choose from to spend their time. I think we'd all agree that a boy choosing our character-developing program is the THE BEST choice he could make as a youth, for long-term development as a human being. An additional “tip of the hat” needs to be given to the several boy scout troops that have also conducted round-up sessions at their troop meetings as well.
Signal Hill First Aid Meet December 14, 2002
Get geared up for our up and coming Fist Aid meet! Signal Hill District would like to welcome 5th grade Webelos (second year Webelos) and Boy Scouts to this fun and educational event.
We are going to get together and practice skills in helping the injured on Saturday, December 14. Location: Barrington Middle School Station Campus 215 Eastern Avenue, Barrington IL. Webelos check in at 1:00 p.m. and Boy Scouts check in at 1:30 p.m. The Webelos program lasts 2 hours and the Boy Scout program lasts 3 hours. Participants will be scored on various first aid tests. You'll find out how ready you are to help out others at all times. That's what “be prepared” means! The event will also include a patch for the uniform.
This is a skills competition and Scouts should brush up on their skills prior to arrival. Be ready for your best!!!
Registration flyers, which include the registration fee, were passed out at the November Roundtable and are also available at the council service center.
