NWSC Launches New Sporting Clays Fundraising Event

The Northwest Suburban Council has joined forces with Northbrook Sports Club to host a new special event to raise money for Scouting.

The 1st Annual Sporting Clays Classic will be held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at Northbrook Sports Club's Grayslake facilities. Sporting Clays is a challenging variation of trap and skeet shooting that simulates situations you might find while hunting. Participants will field a team of five shooters to compete on Northbrook's 17 station sporting clays course. The day concludes with a prime rib dinner and drinks with prizes and recognitions given to the top teams.

This exciting new event is being organized by a talented committee of experienced shooters, including Kevin Chapman, Mike Celvi, Chris Yacu, Tom Anderson, and John Lewis. Our goal is to raise over $15,000 to support Scouting programs in the Northwest Suburban Council. For more information contact Sporting Clays Chairman Kevin Chapman at 847-392-8707 or e-mail at madpiper@bh.nwsc.org, or contact Special Events Director Jason Erpelding at 847-824-6910 or e-mail at jerpeldi@bsamail.org.

2003 Friends of Scouting "Hat Trick"

This has been an exciting year for Family Friends of Scouting. Many Units have had an increase in both pledge total and the percent of parents giving. Hearing the story of what Scouting does for our youth and how they can help financially is important to the growth of the Scouting program.

So far this year there have been many successes. Blackhawk leads the way with 65% of their Unit presentations done and is at 80% of their goal. Great job Cindy Kunzer and team! Pathfinder is a little over last years numbers and the Units enjoy the presentations. March was a big month for them and we await the totals from Dave Riggs and the Pathfinder District. Signal Hill has many Units with a significant gain in pledges. They are pleased with the presentations and the use of Scouts to help tell the story. Jim Moran and team are over 50% and are looking at finishing early. North Woods is doing well, with some Units doubling what they gave last year. The presentations are well liked in the North Woods District. Lenny Wade and team are over 50% of goal and are coming on strong. If your unit hasn't had their presentation yet, please schedule one. The investment you and your families make today will have a positive impact of scouting in the Northwest Suburban Council in the future.

Motorola Title Sponsor for 2003 Golf Outing

The Council Golf Committee is gearing up to offer one of the best golf outings in years thanks to the generous financial support of the Motorola Corporation. Motorola has signed on to be the title sponsor of the 2003 Golf Classic to be held at Inverness Golf Club on June 9. Inverness is one of the finest private golf courses in the Chicago area and we're looking forward to a fun and successful event. There will be exciting changes to our tournament including a new format allowing players to play their own ball (a foursome total net score using a Peoria Handicap for those of you who speak the language). Anyone shooting a hole-in-one on hole #9 will win a 2003 Porsche Boxster courtesy of Napleton Porsche in Westmont. Live and silent auctions will feature dozens of great items ranging from golf packages to theatre tickets. Foursomes, hole sponsorships, and cart sponsorships are available now for you or your company. For more information contact Special Events Director Jason Erpelding at 847-824-6910 or e-mail jerpeldi@bsamail.org.
