Camp-O-Ree 2003
The 2003 North Woods District Spring Camp-O-Ree will be held the weekend of April 25-27, 2003 at the Rainbow Council Scout Reservation in Morris, IL. The event will feature a pioneering theme. Each troop will be challenged to build a pioneering marvel at the event that will impress all in attendance. The afternoon events will feature a special treat, when the Cub Scouts will be invited out to participate in their own specially designed programs for Saturday afternoon which is run primarily by the Troops. The evening events will culminate with the Order of the Arrow campfire and Call-out ceremony. For Boy Scouts and Leaders, the fee is $7.00 a person and anyone attending Cub Scouts and Webelos sessions are $4.00. For more information contact:

Dist. Dinner
The tuxedos were brought out of mothballs and dresses were cleaned for the Annual North Woods District Recognition Dinner February 8th. The theme was Prom night, and many couples dressed the role, as dinner and dancing were a big part of the evening. The stars of the night were, as always, the many volunteers who received awards and recognition for their tireless work as Scouting volunteers. Recognized were:

District Commissioner, Nancy Dall, bestowed upon Caryl Medsker the District Commissioners Award followed by District Chairman, Forrest Borre, recognizing Lenny Wade with the District Chairman's Award.
The evenings last awards the Tall Pines and District Award of Merit were then presented. For the Tall Pines, North Woods recognized Bobbi Hickman, Sam Jung, Lu Goodman and Bill Perkins for all they do in North Woods and in their Units. The highest awards North Woods can present, the District Award of Merit, was presented to Caryl Medsker, Jim Scanlan, Brad Compton, and Sandy Perrino. The event then shifted to party mode with dancing and fellowship till midnight. Many thanks to Dee Tollaksen and Chris Geraghty for their work in chairing this wonderful night.

Pinewood Derby
The 2003 running of the North Woods Pinewood derby is rapidly approaching. Over 700 people are expected to pack into the gym of Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights for this truly spectacular event. Each Pack is eligible to send the top three finalists in each rank level to compete in the Derby as well as the top three design finishers from their Packs. To make the time fly when not racing there will be several games and activities to keep the kids busy when their car is not burning down the tracks. The special feature on race day will be the U.S. Army portable obstacle course, pictured on the North Woods website at www.nwsc.org. Remember only those scouts with parental permission slips that are signed will be allowed to run on this way cool course. The day will culminate as the winners from all 5 tracks will face off on one track and will compete for the title of District Champions. Weigh-ins start at 8am with race time at 9am on Saturday April 5th. Check the North Woods website for registration information.
