YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING
Youth Protection training can now be accomplished on line by connecting with the course through the Council website at www.nwsc.org. Upon completion of the training, a certificate will be generated and sent to the person completing the course. Upon receipt of the ceretificate, trained individuals are encouraged to contact the Council office to have their training record posted accordingly.
Unit training coordinators are encouraged to poll their registered leaders as to completion of Youth Protection Training and submit a consolidated listing of unit leaders who have completed the training including the date trained.
NOTE: Individuals who took the on-line Youth Protection Training during the period 1 – 10 February 2003 were not certified for course completion. These individuals must take the course again to receive proper certification.

Troop Committee Training
Three opportunities to get you and your Troop Committee trained!!
This ONE SESSION training program is designed to help ALL CURRENT AND FUTURE troop committee members better understand their roles and responsibilities. This training will also enable troop committee members to support the troop, the Scoutmaster and Scouts.
Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are also encouraged to attend.

responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership
experience. Come learn more about your position including, advancement, the patrol method, Junior Leader Training, troop organization and Scoutmaster's conferences.

Introduction to Outdoor Leaders Skills

Course Objective:
To teach the outdoor skills necessary for Boy Scout first class rank. This will be a “hands on” course and will cover the skills of ropes/knots/lashings, cooking, wood tools, first aid and nature. Webelos and Venture leaders are also encouraged to attend to learn outdoor skills.
Equipment:
The current edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is required at all sessions. Equipment list will be provided at the patrol meeting. Menu and money for patrol food will be provided at the Patrol Meeting.
Personal equipment, tents and eating utensils are the responsibility of the participants. All gear must be able to be carried into site.
All, new and experienced, Scoutmasters, Asst. Scoutmasters, Troop Committee Members, outgoing Webelos Leaders and Parents are invited to attend the course.

It's never too early to start planning ahead! Northwest Suburban Council announces Okpik Cold Weather Camping Training for Troop Leaders, Senior Scouts, Troop Trainers Ages 14 & Up
This Train the Trainer program will provide you with the knowledge and materials to conduct winter camping training within your units. This program covers the skills and techniques that must be learned and the planning that must be done to ensure a successful, fun, and safe cold weather camping experience.
These include physical preparation, clothing, food and water, sanitation practices, first aid and emergency procedures, shelter and shelter building, methods of travel in snow, and making equipment.
Cold weather camping mistakes can be deadly. The skills learned in the Okpik Program will make cold weather camping an enjoyable, safe Scouting experience. Visit the Okpik website at http://www.nwsc.org/okpik/ for upcoming information!
