The Northwest Suburban Council Selection Committee announces
that
Stephen J. Taylor will assume duties as Scout Executive effective November 16,
2003. Steve is currently Scout Executive for the Palmetto Council in
Spartanburg, South Carolina where he has served since January 1994. Prior
to that
posting he served as Scout Executive for the Attakapas Council in Alexandria,
Louisiana. Other professional assignments include serving as Assistant
Scout
Executive for the Coastal Empire Council in Savannah, Georgia as well as
District
Executive assignments in the North Florida Council in Jacksonville, Florida and
the Blue Ridge Council in Greenville, South Carolina.
Steve is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor
member of the Order of the Arrow,
former Lodge Chief of Lekau Lodge #77, and camp staff member from what is now
the Southern New Jersey Council. He is a Certified Fund Raising
Executive,
BSA Certified Grant Writer, and serves as Board Chairman of the Children's
Trust Fund of South Carolina along with being a national volunteer for his
fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. He holds a BA in Political Science and
Philosophy
(with honors) from Tennessee Wesleyan College, has done graduate work at the
University of Wisconsin - Madison, the BSA's Center for Professional
Development
where he has also served as on the Adjunct Faculty, and is currently working on
a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership.
He and his wife Cindy, an English teacher,
have three sons: Jason, an
Eagle Scout and a junior at Clemson University; Jared, a Life Scout and 9th
grader; and Alex, a Webelos Scout and 4th grader. Steve has also been
active in
Rotary, the March of Dimes, the National Association of Presbyterian
Scouters, the United Way, and the Association of Fundraising
Professionals. Please
