Work Weekend 2003
Approximately 375 Lakota Lodge Arrowmen and Wilderness Engineers descended
onto Napowan Adventure Base for the weekend starting on May 16 to work on
projects to better the camp. After the sawdust, water, paint and dirt
settled, over 2500 man hours were expended on the various projects. Three
staff huts were erected with the generous donation from the Lakota Lodge.
The trees and brush in the campsites, on trails and program areas were
trimmed back, stumps were removed and gravel was placed around Kybos. The
Dining Hall, Trading Post and Office were opened up and cleaned. Buildings
were painted and many electrical and plumbing projects were complete. The
Maintenance Building was cleaned and docks were put in the lakes. The
Shooting Sports now has a fence, and archery has all new target stands,
arrow and bow holders and other repairs and items.
The weekend saw excellent weather, good food, fellowship and memorable Order
of the Arrow ceremonies. I want to express my thanks to all that
participated this weekend. Remember, this is YOUR camp and all you do helps
to make Napowan the jewel that it is. A special thanks goes out to the
kitchen staff that supplied those tasty meals.
CAMP STAFF INTERVIEWS
Staff interviews for positions at all of the summer camps are taking place. While some positions have been filled, there are still positions remaining to be filled. We are still looking for people, both young and experienced, who are looking for a great way to spend their summer (and possibly get paid for it, too). Positions are still available at all camp locations for interested and motivated persons willing to help provide an exciting summer camp program to the youth we serve. >>
