It's never too early to start planning ahead! Northwest Suburban Council announces Okpik Cold Weather Camping Training for Troop Leaders, Senior Scouts, Troop Trainers Ages 14 & Up
This Train the Trainer program will provide you with the knowledge and materials to conduct winter camping training within your units. This program covers the skills and techniques that must be learned and the planning that must be done to ensure a successful, fun, and safe cold weather camping experience.
These include physical preparation, clothing, food and water, sanitation practices, first aid and emergency procedures, shelter and shelter building, methods of travel in snow, and making equipment.

Boy Scout Youth Leader Training
Troop Leader Development

Who: Scouts who are a troop officer or likely to become a troop officer. Participants should be at least First Class and have attended a long-term camp. Scouts should know how to build fires and cook. Troop Leader Development is not for scouts with significant homesickness issues, discipline issues or who are generally not leaders counted on by your troop.
What: Troop Leader Development, the Junior Leader Training sponsored by the Northwest Suburban Council. On arrival participants are randomly divided into patrols to work together for the entire week. As a Patrol, they will cook and attend training sessions, attend presentations and function together with Patrol spirit and teamwork. The course is entirely boy run with a youth Senior Patrol Leader, and his assistants as the core leadership. Course participants are required to create their own set of conference goals, which focus on the 11 skills of leadership presented at the conference. They must complete their goals to the satisfaction of themselves and their home Scoutmaster. When the goals are completed the scout is eligible to wear the TLD Arrowhead.
When: Course – Sunday June 15, 2003 through Friday, June 20, 2003
Course begins on Sunday at 10:00AM; arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 Course ends on Friday, June 20, 2002 at 8:00 PM, Banquet begins at 6:00 PM.
Where: Camp Lakota, Woodstock, Illinois
Orientation: May 28, 2003 – 7:45 to 8:30 PM at the Council Office – arrive early if you need to finalize payment or registration details.
Cost: $165.00 includes all course materials, food, and a course T-shirt. A $25.00 deposit per scout is due with reservation (reservations are not complete until deposit is received in council office), balance of fees are due by 7:45 PM on Wednesday June 5, 2002. No fees accepted at course.
Banquet: Friday June 20, 2003, 6:00 PM Camp Lakota. Scoutmaster and parents are invited to attend. A reservation and payment of $8.00 is required for each person wishing to attend. The participant's meal is included in course fees.
Why: To have fun, improve Scouting skills and learn the leadership skills as taught by the Boy Scouts of America.
Reservations: Complete the attached reservation form from the web site or Council Office and send along with a $25.00 deposit for each slot to the council office. A maximum of 4 reservations will be accepted from any one unit. If space permits after May 15, 2003 additional reservations will be accepted. (max of 6 participants per unit after 5/15/03). All reservations are on a first come first paid basis. Limited spaces available reserve early.

WOOD BADGE FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

August 22-23-24 & September 12-13-14, 2003
It is our hope to have all Leaders trained in Wood Badge Leadership principles. With this goal in mind, we can be assured that we are delivering the promise made to youth, parents and sponsors.
The following persons should be Wood Badge trained:
?Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Venture advisors.
??Assistant Scoutmasters, Cubmasters and Advisors.
??Unit Committee Chairpersons and Committee members
All Scouters providing program.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be eligible for Wood Badge Training you must:
1. Be a registered Scouter in the Boy Scouts of America.
2. Have not previously attended a Wood Badge course.
3. Have completed the basic training courses for your Scouting position.
4. Have a Class 3 physical valid through September 2003.
The fee for Wood Badge training is:
PAID IN FULL
$175 - Before June 1, 2003.
Or
$195 - After June 1, 2003
You can reserve your place on the roster by turning in a $60 nonrefundable
deposit with this application. All final payments are due by July 31, 2003.
Remember the course is limited to 48 participants. Don't miss the
opportunity to improve the leadership of your unit.
