YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING
Youth Protection training can now be accomplished on line by connecting with the course through the Council website at www.nwsc.org. Upon completion of the training, a certificate will be generated and sent to the person completing the course. Upon receipt of the ceretificate, trained individuals are encouraged to contact the Council office to have their training record posted accordingly.
Unit training coordinators are encouraged to poll their registered leaders as to completion of Youth Protection Training and submit a consolidated listing of unit leaders who have completed the training including the date trained.
NOTE: Individuals who took the on-line Youth Protection Training during the period 1 – 10 February 2003 were not certified for course completion. These individuals must take the course again to receive proper certification.

NEW TRAINER RECOGNITION PATCH
The Northwest Suburban Council is pleased to recognize those volunteers who give of their time, talents, and efforts to bring training to the leaders of our council. Many make the extra effort to complete the Trainer Development Conference so that the training we offer is one of high quality and continue to serve as staff time and again. Join me in saying “thank you” to these trainers. You'll know them by the special patch they wear.
Patty Polites, Council Training Coordinator
THANK YOU
A big THANK YOU goes to Patti Mikes as she steps out of the position of Council General Training Chair. For over a year Patti has helped us get the New Leader Essentials course up and going in our council. We appreciate all her time and efforts and the dedication she gave to the position.

BALOO TRAINING
The National Office, Boy Scouts of America, has reinforced the requirement that "Adults giving leadership to a pack overnighter must complete Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) and be present on campouts." BALOO trains participants to properly understand the importance of program intent, youth protection guidelines, health and safety, site selection, age-appropriate activities, and sufficient adult participation.
Tour permits for all pack overnight activities will be checked to insure compliance with the BALOO requirement. Pack outdoor coordinators are encouraged to check the training calendar to have unit leaders complete this training.
A copy of the certificate should be forwarded to the Council Office by the individual or the Unit Training Coordinator.
