Let's Finish 2003 as
Winners!
Pathfinder District is in a position to finish 2003 as a
Quality District. The district has
achieved its goals for on-time re-chartering, number of Quality Units, leader
training, and number of Unit Commissioners, but we're not there yet. In order to make Quality District, we still
need and I am asking for everyone's help in three important areas during the
final months of the year.
The first area is recruiting new youth members. Please ask the Scouts in your dens, packs,
patrols, troops, and crews to ask their friends to join Scouting. Have your Scouts tell their friends how much
fun they're having in the Scouting program.
We ask leaders to get completed application forms and registration fees
into the Northwest Suburban Council office as soon as they are received. This allows us to track our progress towards
our membership goal and ensures that the Scout can earn rank advancement and is
covered by the council's insurance. An
added benefit of recruiting new Scouts is the help you can get from the parents
of the new Scouts.
As an added incentive to Boy Scouts who tend to be a little
reluctant to tell their friends that they are Scouts, a drawing will be held at
the December Roundtable meeting for a free week at Napowan in 2004 for one Boy
Scout who recruits a new Scout.
The second area we need to work on is starting two new
units. If you belong to a church, temple,
mosque, or other organization that does not have a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout
Troop, or Venturing Crew, talk to Brian Sutilla, Laura Sikat, or me about
getting one started. Scouting offers an
organized youth program to the organization.
If you are a Boy Scout leader and have noticed that the
older high school-aged Scouts have not been coming to troop meetings, a
Venturing Crew can offer them activities that more closely match their
interests.
If you are a Cub Scout leader and your chartering organization
does not sponsor a Boy Scout Troop, a new Boy Scout troop can offer them that
next step that they can look forward to.
The third area we need to work on is fundraising for the
Friends of Scouting campaign. We're at
a little over 80% of our goal and can reach that goal if you or your employer
cans share the results of our improving economy. Contact Brian Sutilla, Bob Weaver, or me if you think that your
company may be willing to contribute to the Scouts. We can solicit the contribution and keep your name confidential
if you wish.
Please help us achieve our final goals of recruiting new
Scouts, starting two new units, and letting us know if you know a potential
contributor so that your unit and Pathfinder District can achieve Quality
status for 2003!
Yours in Scouting,
Ray Okigawa
Membership Monthly
Everyday we are moving closer to our District Goal of 2%
growth, but we still need everyone's help to meet and exceed this goal!
If your unit has held a Fall Recruitment Event but
experienced low turnout, consider hosting a second recruitment. Remember – recruiting is a year round
activity! The wonderful flyers that the
Council office printed for your Fall Recruitment night can be modified to
announce your new event! Also, consider
running an article in your school newsletter inviting boys to your next Pack
Night. With Halloween in the air,
consider hosting a costume party as your next Pack night Theme and use that as
a recruiting tool!
Another important note is to make sure that your paperwork
is turned in timely! All paperwork must
be turned as soon as possible. If your
paperwork is not turned in by the 15th of the month following
recruitment, the new boys will miss out on receiving the promotion patch! So, please do no disappoint any new scouts and
get that completed paperwork and fees into the Council office today!
Remember, it's time to start thinking crossover, Webelos –
To – Boy Scout Transition. All of the Pack's are busy planning their blue and
gold activities and Webelos are finalizing all of their requirements for cross
over, so all of our Troops should be busy recruiting these Webelos to join
their Troop! The Webelos-to-Boy Scout Transition will give the Webelos Scout a
sampling of your Troop's program, troop leadership, personal advancement, and
an appreciation of troop organization and relationships. If your Troop hasn't already been contacting
Webelos from your feeder Pack's to take a look at your program, make plans
today! It's not too early to begin
inviting Webelos to join in on one of your Troops fall activities!
Help Wanted: We are
looking for assistance on the Membership team!
We are looking for a Round-Up Chairman (assistant) to help with tracking
Pathfinder Units Fall Recruitment plans.
The job would entail following up with unit Round-Up Coordinators (unit
membership chairs) and making sure that they are on track with their Fall
Membership event, as well as following up after their event tracking
applications, etc. If you have the time
to spare this fall, please contact me at the number below!
