LEADER REGISTRATION
Last month, I welcomed all new leaders and returning
leaders to our program this fall. It is
exciting now to see these leaders signing up for and attending training! Your involvement in the program will be more
rewarding and easier with the knowledge gained from training.
Now
comes the importance of leader registration.
If the adult application has not been submitted by the unit to the
council office, the leader is not listed in the council registration
system. Thus, the council has nowhere
to record that the leader has been trained.
It's that simple. Committee Chairmen,
it is vital that adult leader applications be submitted to the council office
as the leader signs up. Please, support
your leaders by following through with this simple step so that the time
and effort they put into taking training does not go unrecognized.
Leader
changing a position? A new adult
application is required to complete that process in our registration
system. When that change is made,
tenure toward the Recognition Award (leader knot) for the new position
begins. Support your leaders in
their efforts to be a quality leader and to receive the recognition they
deserve for that effort by turning in applications promptly.
If
the training for the new position is different from the training for the
leader's previous position (a den leader moving to Cubmaster or Webelos Leader
or a Troop Committee Member moving to Assistant Scoutmaster), the Specifics course
for the new position will be required or the leader is no longer considered
trained. A leader only attends New
Leader Essentials once and that record stays with the leader on the computer. Support your leaders by
informing them of the training they need and helping them to locate a course as
quickly as possible.
The
council and district training teams are available to support your unit's
effort to have trained leaders. If I
can support you in any way, please call or email me. Thank you for all you do to support the
program of the Boy Scouts of America and to help our young men in their journey
toward adulthood.

21st Century Wood
Badge
Congratulations
to all the participants of our recent 21st Century Wood Badge course
on completing their two weekends and meeting the challenge of building their
patrol teams, completing projects, and taking in the leadership skills knowledge
offered by the terrific staff of this year's course. Our deepest thanks to Bob Heuser, Course Director for his
leadership and dedication to making this a quality course. Our best wishes to each of the participants
as they now "work their tickets" to complete the goals they set at the
course. The staff looks forward to
supporting you through your efforts in the next 18 months.
First Aid and CPR Trainings
The Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross have
entered into an agreement to work together to offer First Aid and CPR
trainings. Please bear with us as a
council as we work out the details with our local Red Cross chapter to make
these courses available.
In
the meantime, take advantage of courses offered by your local fire department and
hospital to gain the skills you need in your leadership capacity.
As
a council, we are seeking individuals who are certified to teach or are willing
to become certified to teach first aid and CPR. If you wish to join our team, please contact Patty Polites,
Council Training Coordinator, (847)438-4047.
