Cool Outings!

Camp Tuckahoe or Bust!

Last summer Troop 964 of Lake Zurich set out with 25 boy scouts and 14 adult leaders in 10 cars to Camp Tuckahoe (York Adams Council) near Dillsburg, PA. You haven’t been to summer camp until you’ve been to Camp Tuckahoe. Providing a Scout summer camp program since 1948, they just spent $4.5 million on new construction and renovations, including a new 186,000 gallon swimming pool, bath house, and state of the art dining hall that seats 500. The swimming pool and the food were “awesome” according to our Scouts. They also earned a total of 74 merit badges in just one week! Since our trip was during the first week of July, we planned to see the Gettysburg Battle reenactment (at Yingling Farm near Gettysburg) which is held every July 1-3 (the actual time frame of when the battle took place). Then on July 7th we had a licensed Battlefield Guide take us on a guided tour of the original site. The fee for that (with our group size) was $90.00 and worth every penny. The Scouts also received this cool patch for taking the tour. We took enough pictures to last a lifetime and we all had a great time.

If you’re planning on doing a summer camp next year, try to add Camp Tuckahoe or The Gettysburg Battle Reenactment, or better yet, BOTH to your list. You will not be sorry. In Pennsylvania, we were known as the Boyz from Illinoize.
