Cool Outings! Ski Trip By Troop 392, Pathfinder District We’ve been to other ski outings, but none has been as accommodating or affordable as Camp Gray and Cascade Mountain. For $100 per scout, we got Friday and Saturday lodging, a served dinner, breakfast (no KP), lift ticket and ski rental. Camp Gray near Cascade Mountain Ski Resort is a Catholic outdoor retreat center in Reedsburg, Wis. It is about 30 minutes from Cascade Mountain. They have coed cabins with separate showers and bathrooms. Living quarters are separated by a common hallway that provides privacy yet keeps everyone under the same roof. There is also a gymnasium to use. The dining hall offers coffee and a fireplace. The food was good and plentiful and the staff was accommodating. The drive to Reedsburg is mostly highway. We stopped for breakfast and got to Cascade Mountain when it opened. They had ski lessons for beginners, and tubing with tow ropes for non skiers. We packed a sack lunch to reduce costs. When we returned to Camp Gray, we told the staff when we would be ready to eat and took a shower. Leaders enjoyed the fireplace, and the boys played dodgeball in the gym till lights out. The bunks had mattresses and we used sleeping bags. For more information, visit www.campgray.com. |
