Scouter Of the month

Scouter of the Month - Bob Carlson North Woods District is proud to have Bob Carlson as the Scouter of the Month for February.

Bob comes from a long line of Scouters. His mother was a Den Leader during his Cub Scout years and during his tenure as a Boy Scout, Bob's father was Scoutmaster. He was tapped out as a vigil member and both he and his brother, Bill, attained the rank of Eagle. To those who know him it appears that Bob, eats, sleeps, and drinks Scouting. With such a great start how could he go wrong? Here is the rest of the story…

Bob started his career in scouting as a 2nd grade Cub Scout in Skokie. He continued with scouting through his high school years, being elected early on as an Order of the Arrow member. He became very active with the Order of the Arrow (OA) in high school, holding the position of treasurer. He enjoyed many camping trips, including a backpacking trip to Philmont. Bob earned his Lutheran religious award, was selected as a vigil member of the OA and, finally, earned his Eagle all during his teenage years.

Bob returned to scouting in 1996 when his son Erick was old enough to join Boy Scouts. Under the leadership of Don Best, he became active with Troop 132 in Arlington Heights, volunteering as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Bob enjoyed being able to join his son on several high adventures as well as help his son carry on the legacy of the OA.

In the past couple of years, Bob has returned to the OA to give back to the organization that was such a big part of his growing up years. Bob has been the North Woods Order of the Arrow Chapter Adviser since May 2003. A few months later he was asked to take on the position of Advisor for the Lakota Lodge. He has had great success getting OA members more actively involved. The youth of the OA can really relate to him... probably because he is still a kid at heart. Being Lodge Adviser is a tough job, but Bob seems to be enjoying every minute.

The family tradition continues as his son, Erick, was elected as a member of the OA and earned the Eagle Award in 2003. His wife, Dorothy, has been involved in Girl Scouts for over 15 years as both a Girl Scout and Leader for their daughters Colleen and Katie.

Thank you, Bob, for all you do for the youth in Scouting!!
