Scouter Of the month

Scouter of the Month - Bill Kaisling Bill Kaisling doesn’t know when to come in out of the cold. In fact, he rather enjoys the sting of a sub-freezing day. Bill, you see, is one of those Okpik people. You’ve seen them. They’re the ones who look like they’re having way too much fun at those chilly winter klondikes.

Bill is not just one of those Okpik people. He is THE Okpik guy. On the Okpik staff for the past four years, Bill is serving as this year’s course director.

Cold-weather know-how is but a part of Bill Kaisling’s remarkable Scouter resume. Let’s start with the fact that he’s the Scoutmaster of Troop 38 in Des Plaines — a position he’s held since 1995. For three years leading up to that, Bill was an assistant Scoutmaster.

With so much on his Scouting plate, Bill still managed to find time to get his Wood Badge ticket four years ago, and is currently on the Wood Badge staff.

For the last two years, he’s served as a Blackhawk District Member at large and is currently the district’s Boy Scout Training chairman. Talk about devotion! And, that’s just Scouts.

Bill is very involved as a youth group leader at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Rosemont. He’s taken several “vacations” with his church youth group on mission trips. When you see Bill — with or without his Okpik dog sled — congratulate him as the Scouter of the Month!
