SCOUT EXECUTIVE'S MINUTE

Dear Fellow Scouters:

Probably the biggest rumors over the past several months circulating around the NWSC have been “What’s going on with the Scout Shop?” So here’s the scoop…

The Boy Scouts of America’s National Supply Division approached the Northwest Suburban Council about the same time that we initiated a discussion with them about converting our store from a “Local Council Distributorship” to a “National Scout Shop.” After some in-depth discussions and a review of materials, the Council Finance Committee studied the matter and recommended the conversion. The Council Executive Committee approved their recommendation after further study and review.

The new “Northwest Suburban National Scout Shop” will open for business on Aug 16, 2004. The week before (Aug 7-12) BSA Supply Division personnel will be setting up the new store, constructing fixtures, completing the new layout, and stocking the shelves with fresh inventory. The week before that (Aug 1-6) the Northwest Suburban Council will demolish the existing rear wall of the store, expanding the new shop into the current printing area, and construct a new wall to house a new printing area with new carpeting and a fresh coat of paint. This will give the store an additional 400 square feet of space.

Our plan is to remain open in the current sales area through 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, and move the existing merchandise into the warehouse to continue to provide Scout supplies during the construction phase of the conversion. This will enable our customers to continue to have direct service without a long interruption.

The new Northwest Suburban National Scout Shop will retain the same days and hours of operation. The shop will continue to carry special local items such as the Cub Scout patch vest segment pieces by contractual agreement between the Northwest Suburban Council and BSA Supply Division. The change will increase available inventory for our customers locally while reducing costs to the council, provide an expanded sales area, provide improved service with more shop employees, secure new equipment for the shop, provide an upgraded “look” to the shop. BSA Supply Division personnel will also attend local roundtables and major program events with Scouting merchandise for sale “off site” from the shop.

Best regards,
