Scouter of the Month: Joaquin Zamora
This month we are recognizing Joaquin Zamora, Committee Chairman of Pack, Troop and Crew 787 of “Planeta Azul para los ninos Des Plaines.”While attending a Rally at North School, he decided he wanted to help provide a program for the kids, so he volunteered as Committee Chairman of the Pack. As a result of the popularity of the program and Joaquin’s commitment, the Pack has grown to add a Troop and a Venture Crew. Joaquin has been involved with Scoutreach for over three years and has an 8-year-old son who is a Cub Scout. There are over 60 Scouts enrolled with Pack, Troop and Crew 787. Parent participation is very high. The group is a very close group who often celebrate birthdays, communions and baptisms together. When asked how he keeps the parents active and interested, Joaquin’s response is: “I call all families continuously and communicate with them about the program and what is happening from the District level and Council level. Joaquin is also a member of St. Mary’s church and Maryville church in Des Plaines, where he is also very active. Joaquin’s contributions have been instrumental for laying the ground work for the Scoutreach program here in the Northwest Suburban Council. The program has been in existence for over three years. The program is growing not only in youth participation but by community awareness, which is a result of the efforts by volunteers such as Joaquin’s. Joaquin is present at every Roundtable (held twice a month) which with Scoutreach serves as a District Committee meeting as well. He has been vital in planning the Annual Tournament that culminates the program each year. Thank you Joaquin for your dedication and commitment to the youth of our community. |
