Scouter of the Month: Mike Tangen
It’s with great pride that we salute Mike Tangen as our November Scouter of the Month. Mike has spent many years in Scouting – starting out as a Cub when his family lived in Maryland. Mike’s mom was his Den Mother and his dad was an assistant Cub Master – so it’s only natural that Mike would become an adult leader when his son joined Cub Scouts.
Mike is currently an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 964 in Lake Zurich. His son Matt is a Life Scout with the troop. (Mike made it to Life as a youth). As an adult, Mike’s building a most impressive Scouting resume – Okpik 2002, Wood Badge 2004, Co-chair of the Signal Hill Fall Camporee for ’03 and ’04, “Assistant Scoutmaster of the Year” for the Signal Hill district last year. Mike is very active with the Order of the Arrow and is a regular at the Spring and Fall work weekends. Next summer, he’ll serve as a Scoutmaster for one of the six Northwest Suburban Council Troops headed for the National Jamboree. Mike’s wife Deanna is a troop leader for daughter Kylie’s Girl Scout Troop. His is one busy “Scouting family.” Congratulations Mike and “thanks for all you do!”
