SCOUT EXECUTIVE'S MINUTE

Dear Fellow Scouters:

I would like to welcome the Scouts and Scouters from the 25 new units that have been newly chartered during the first half of 2004. These new units represent 525 new youth that are now actively involved in Scouting. At the same time I would challenge them to take advantage of the comprehensive services and programs that are available to them as new leaders and youth as well as to our existing units.

The Northwest Suburban Council offers a wide variety of programs from initial leader training (New Leader Essentials) to ongoing leader training (local District Roundtables, Youth Protection) to program events (camporees, day camps, resident camp, etc.) to specialized training (Wilderness First Aid, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense). We offer ways to help units raise the necessary funds to support their local unit through our popcorn sales campaign and wreath sales.

Our Council Service Center offers program support services such as campsite reservations, tour permits, unit money-earning permits, answers to questions on camps and activities, printing, mailings, insurance, advancement processing, registration services including criminal background checks, and ongoing year-round professional field service support as well as a National Scout Shop (opened August 16th) plus meeting space for various council committees and functions.

There is a lot going on in Scouting. Our monthly newsletter, “The Northwest News” and our website, www.nwsc.org, help keep our Scouting family informed on updated local Scouting news. We also publish an annual report that provides an overview of our programs, services, financials, and results each year.

We are here to help you have an enjoyable and productive Scouting experience. Our board and staff are highly dedicated, trained, experienced, and devoted to Scouting and the Northwest Suburban Council. Please let us know when we can be helpful to you in that high quality Scouting experience.

Best regards,

Stephen J. Taylor, CFRE
