Scouter of the Month - Doug Zubka

Scouter of the Month - Doug Zubka Doug Zubka started Scouting as the youngest of 3 boys. His mother was a Den Leader and his father was the Cubmaster, so naturally, at the age of 5, Doug was the youngest Cub Scout in the pack. After earning the Arrow of Light and crossing over to Boy Scouts, Doug earned made it to second class, and then other things got in the way and Doug left Scouting. Doug did not have any intention of becoming a leader when he enrolled his two boys in Scouting, but he always had two hands to give where needed.

At Bill McGovern’s urging, Doug started as an Assistant Den Leader with Pack 290 and later became the Webelos II Den Leader. Doug is now active as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 297, a Crew Committee Member in Crews 297 & 601, the lead Advisor to the Venturing Activities Cabinet and Pathfinder District Vice Chair of Training for the past 18 months. He is trained in CPR, first aid, Climb on Safely, BSA Climbing Instructor, Outdoor Webelos Leader, Wood Badge, New Leader Essentials, Youth Protection Training, Cub Scout Leader Specifics, Trainer Development Course, IOLS, Okpik and Cub Scout Archery & BB instruction. If you have taken any training you will have noticed him as "the guy in the hat". Doug is a merit badge counselor for Astronomy, Cycling, Fishing, Hiking, Space Exploration and Truck Transportation. Doug drives an 18-wheeler and enjoys activities with his boys like archery, astronomy, camping, video games, outdoor activities, biking, fishing or just messing around in the garage when it's not full of scout stuff. You’ll often hear him say “I grew up once, I did not like it.” But most of all he loves the Scouting "ENTHUSIASM".

Doug is currently pursuing a career in coffee roasting with his own brand of hand-roasted coffee under the Sheer Ambrosia Coffee Roasters, LLC label. His company has provided donations to several trainings events, outings and eagle projects in 2005.

A cool night, a warm campfire, good friends and a steaming cup of freshly roasted 'joe' - paradise
