Scouter of the Month - Jim Ray

Meet Jim Ray, North Woods' Scouter of the month. Meet Jim Ray, North Woods’ Scouter of the month. He’s a man with a busy Scouting calendar and many hats. Jim’s older son Nate is a member of Troop 34 in Arlington Heights. When his younger son Dan chose to join Troop 468 – also in Arlington Heights – Jim split his time and devotion as an Assistant Scoutmaster with both troops. Two years after starting that dual duty, Jim took over as Scoutmaster of Troop 468 last summer. He’s still serving as an ASM with Troop 34. Talk about devotion! Not to mention keeping two sons happy!

That’s not all. Jim chairs the Cub Scout Activities and Civic Service committees for the North Woods district. Last year he spearheaded development of the Cub Scout Klondike – a new activity of winter outdoor fun for Cub Scouts in the district. The event proved so popular that he’ll be repeating it again this winter.

Next summer at the National Scout Jamboree Jim will serve as 2nd Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1034. He attended Wood Badge in the fall of 2003 and expects to receive his beads soon.

At home, Jim is joined by his wife, Sue, and daughters Margo, 8, and Melody, 5, in addition to his two sons. A member of a musically inclined family, Jim can be found playing his trombone at a Sunday afternoon “Ray-cital.”

In his spare time, Jim works for Convergys as a Software Developer. The North Woods district salutes Jim for his devotion to the Scouting program and for touching the lives of so many.
