SCOUT EXECUTIVE'S MINUTE Dear Scouts:
Fall and the re-starting of school is already upon us! New boys will want to join their local Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop. Both young men and young women will sign up to join Venturing. Parents of all of these young people will be recruited to fill various vacancies left by graduating parents of local Scouting units and they will need to be trained.Be on the look out for organized and individual “joining opportunities” such as Boy Talks, Cub Scout School Rallies, Troop Open Houses, Exploring and Venturing First Nighters. Use them to the fullest extent to invite new people to join your local Pack, Troop or Crew. Ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, employers, employees, fellow church, synagogue or mosque goers, community leaders, people new to the community, children of all of those listed above, AND people who used to be involved, but dropped out along the way. Involve and re-involve local kids and their parents in Scouting. Fall is a time of new beginnings. Take advantage and make JOINING SCOUTING a major priority of these new beginnings by focusing on extending an invitation to be a part of what we think is America’s premiere youth program that truly does change lives for the better. Just ask any Eagle Scout, God and Country Award recipient, Philmont or Jamboree participant just what type of impact their involvement in Scouting has had on their life! It’s more than simple camping, hiking or badge earning – it’s about values that last a lifetime – of turning youth into responsible adults. This year boys joining as new Cub Scouts will receive a special gift from the Northwest Suburban Council; a “PIT KIT” comprised of a new Pinewood Derby Car Kit inside a blue plastic handled box especially designed to transport the car and its “fixin’s” to all of the races – just in time for a Pack’s Pinewood Derby season. Join the “Race to Cub Scouting” sponsored nationwide by Chevrolet and endorsed by NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon. Stephen J. Taylor, CFRE Scout Executive Northwest Suburban Council |
