Scouter of the Month - Ryan Julian

Scouter of the Month - Ryan Julian In 1999, Ryan Julian told his son, Ryan, that if he wanted to cross over from Cubs into Boy Scouts, that he’d support him. Having enjoyed Scouting as a youth Ryan had fond memories of the program and offered to become an adult leader in Troop 10. He started as the training coordinator, moved on to Assistant Scoutmaster and in 2001 became Scoutmaster. To help him along the way, he completed Basic Leader Training, OKPIK, Climbing Certification, Woodbadge and every other training class he could to help him do all he could for “the boys.”

When his term as Scoutmaster expired in 2003, he joined the Signal Hill District Committee and in 2004 was elected District Chairman. He’s a strong believer in the High Adventure part of the program; having led crews at Summer Camp, Philmont, the Boundary Waters and will lead a crew to Seabase in March, 2005. His mantra has always been, “We’re in this for the boys.” Now that he is involved with the Venture program, he is delighted to change that to “the boys and girls.”

His son, Ryan is now a junior at Barrington High School, a Life Scout and anticipates completing his Eagle requirements this year. Ryan, Sr. wouldn’t be able to be so involved in Scouting without the strong support of his family. In addition to their son, Ryan and his wife, Susan- a Registered Nurse- have 3 daughters – Michelle- a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Karen – a senior at Bradley University and Megan – a sophomore at Butler University. They are all strong believers in the power of volunteerism, supporting the Special Olympics, P.A.D.S. homeless shelter, Franciscan Outreach and are active members of St. Anne’s in Barrington.
