Scouter of the Month - Marlin Simon

Scouter of the Month - Marlin Simon Marlin Simon started out like most parents with a son in Cub Scouts. He and his son worked on many pack committee fund raisers and projects throughout their time with Pack 381. Moving up to Troop 140, Marlin signed on as an Assistant Scoutmaster in 2000. Quickly realizing Marlin’s organizational skills, the leaders of Troop 140 asked him to be the Troop committee chairman in 2001. Marlin took the job and remained in that post for three additional years.

Troop 140 is the largest and most influential troop in the North Woods district and is very proud of extensive travel itinerary, group and individual accomplishments. Marlin has helped organize activities that have taken the troop literally all over the world.

In popcorn sales, Marlin’s son Daniel was the number one seller in the council three years in a row. Marlin is now the District Chairman for the North Woods District and brings his unique leadership style to the district committee. Marlin’s skills have been employed in many other organizations throughout the Northwest suburbs including the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce. As a member of that group, Marlin helped develop the Buffalo Grove Days celebration into one of the largest summer events for that community. Marlin has been the chairman of “Relay for Life” – a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in Buffalo Grove which raised almost $100,000 in its first year.

Marlin has been president of his synagogue, has run his own business in the Chicago land area for the last 30 years, and remains very active in his community. It is our privilege to honor Marlin Simon as our Scouter of the Month.
