Scouter of the Month - Mark Dunne
July’s Scouter of the Month is Mark Dunne who wears many hats for the Boy Scouts. Mark is currently the Signal Hill District Commissioner, Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 964 from Lake Zurich where his son, Matthew is a Life Scout, American Red Cross Instructor and he also helps with FOS presentations. He and his wife, Marcia, are also involved in their daughter Katie’s Learning For Life group, The Adventure Girls, comprised of girls in 4th through 8th grade. Mark will be very busy this year planning the next Signal Hill District Awards Dinner as he and Curt Siegel both earned the infamous District Award of Merit in 2005.
Mark who is a brotherhood member of the OA and his son is Ordeal member will be attending NOAC. Mark served as a First Assistant Scoutmaster at the 2005 National Jamboree. Mark was bitten by the Scouter bug when he became the Webelos leader for his son’s Pack 237 for two years. At the same time, he was the Assistant Cubmaster, District Cub Scout Advancement Chair, District Cub Scout Training Chair, and then a Unit Commissioner. As a leader, Mark takes training seriously and has taken about every course offered by council including the basic courses in all positions plus advanced courses including Woodbadge and Okpik. He has attended District specific courses at The Philmont Training Center twice as well as courses at Lord Baden-Powell University of Scouting for the past five years where he attained his doctorate degree last spring. Mark has also been on staff for various trainings at the Cub Scout and Boy Scout levels including Woodbadge. This summer he will travel with his son on his first Philmont trek. Professionally, Mark has worked in the commercial banking field for the past twenty years and is a Director at Wachovia Capital Finance. Wachovia finances corporations going through management or leveraged buyouts, capital restructurings, or DIP financing with loans ranging from $10 to $100 million. Mark’s hobby is woodworking and he has a set of dining room chairs in the basement he has been waiting to complete once that 1 hour a week of free time kicks in. |
