Explorer of the Month - Gerald C. “Jerry” Paulsen is the District Chair over the Learning for Life programs. His inspiring passion to positively impact young people has been instrumental in expanding the Learning for Life programs throughout this council. His dedication, wisdom, and generosity have been a constant support for the Learning for Life staff and volunteers. He has donated his time and resources (approximating $25,000) to implement vital programs that have already affected hundreds of students in the northwest suburban community.

Jerry started out as a police detective and D.A.R.E officer who taught full time in schools while simultaneously conducting narcotics and homicide investigations. For his dedication and anti-drug stand, President George H. Bush stated, “…Jerry’s concern strengthens my faith in the future of America.” In addition, Jerry has been named the Outstanding Person of Illinois by Governor Jim Edgar and the Illinois Jaycees. He currently sits on the Safe and Drug Free Schools Committee in Elgin.

Moreover, Jerry proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army’s Elite Special Forces, more commonly know as the “Green Beret’s.” One of his assignments included assisting with the instruction of ROTC cadets at Northern Illinois University. During his military career, Jerry received over 20 awards.

In 1994, Jerry left law enforcement and established his own company called Paulsen Productions Inc. For the past 12 years, he has designed and conducted communication seminars and delivered keynote speeches to major corporations worldwide. Devotion to his career has lead to many accolades including being a two time recipient of the Lion’s Club International Distinguished Citizen Award, the Department of Defense Award of Excellence, and being included in the International Who’s Who of Entrepreneurs. Jerry is also an active member of the Task Force for Veteran Entrepreneurship on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
