SCOUT EXECUTIVE'S MINUTE
Dear Fellow Scouters:
For those who know me well they know that I am not much of a coffee drinker. I've always enjoyed a tall glass of cold milk, a lemonade, or a icy Coke far better than any hot drink, but once a week during cold weather I treat myself to a combination coffee/hot chocolate drink at the local coffee house. This one specific day I went through the drive-through line before hopping onto the Tollway for the morning commute and did not really take particular notice of the car in front of me. They got their coffees and off they went. When I arrived at the window to pay for my hot drink the barista said, "The people in the car in front of you paid for your mocha. They said to have a nice day." It's been a couple of months now and I still have no idea who treated me. It was truly a "random act of kindness." Isn't that what Scouting teaches both youth and adults? To do good things for one another without expectation of reward? And wouldn't the world be a better place if people treated one another like they were treating themselves? The next time you're in line for a coffee or hot chocolate at your local morning stop --- treat the person behind you in line to their morning commute drink. You'll feel better yourself knowing you have started someone else to having a great day --- a friend to all and a brother to every Scout! Best regards, Stephen J.
