Scouter of the Month - Ted Begley

Scouter of the Month - Ted Begley Blackhawk District is proud to present Ted Begley as the January Scouter of the Month.

Ted serves as the recently elected Vice-Chairman of Membership for Blackhawk District. The other scouting hats Ted wears include Unit Commissioner, Committee Member of Troop 226 and Assistant Cubmaster of Pack 228.

Ted has two sons involved in the Scouting program. Cullen is a Star scout and Nolan is a Second Class scout. Ted’s love for scouting was rekindled when Cullen entered first grade and wanted to be a Tiger Cub. He has held every position in Pack 228 except Committee Chairman--which his wife, Amy, held for five years. “Amy helps me keep it all together; I don’t know where I would be without her.”

Ted is an Eagle Scout and an Order of the Arrow member. In 2006 Ted completed the Woodbadge course, scouting’s ultimate training program. He also works on the Friends of Scouting campaign as a presenter and helps out on the Blackhawk District training staff. He is currently a participant in the Okpik course.

As a 26 year member of the Chicago Carpenters Union his skill have proved to be quite useful, as it turns out, on all of those Cub Scout projects.

Ted’s interests outside of scouting include watching his sons play sports, being in the outdoors and spending any free time with his wife and sons.
