April 2008 Scouter of the Month — Terry Aldridge

April Scouter of the Month — Terry Aldridge Charles "Terry" Aldridge was a naval officer and traveled on submarines before deciding that traveling to summer camp and the Boundary Waters was a better way to go. Terry lives in Lake Zurich, with his wife Sue, who just so happens to be incredibly supportive of Terry’s dedication to Scouting. Terry works full-time as a Project Manager for KHB Mechanical Group, in Willowbrook. Though he travels to an Air Force base hospital just about every week, he makes every effort to plan his schedule so that he is home for Scout related meetings and campouts.

When Terry’s grandson, Josh, bridged into Troop 964 in 2003, Terry dove in as an ASM and never looked back. Terry has taken just about every training course offered, from BALOO to Okpik to Wood Badge. Likewise, Terry’s been on staff for many courses, including SMS, NLE, IOLS, Okpik, TDC, and NYLT, and is quick to lend a hand whenever called upon.

To list all of Terry’s Scouting accomplishments would be impossible, so we’ll touch on some of his favorites: Terry is a Wood Badge Beaver; Eagle Scout; he’s a merit badge counselor; Unit Commissioner; OA Vigil honor; he visited his grandson a number of days at the 2005 National Jamboree; has earned the Boy Scout Leader Training Award; is a member of the Wilderness Engineers; is an Adviser in OA’s Lakota Lodge; attended NOAC in 2006; Assistant Scoutmaster of the year in 2006; District Committee member of the year 2007; BWCAW Crew Adviser 2007; a member at large for NWSC Council Committee; NWSC Camping Committee member; Signal Hill District Camping Committee; and right around the corner, he’s returning to Boundary Waters in June of 2008 as a NWSC Contingent Crew Adviser.

Terry’s Scouting interests revolve around the basic requirements and he has been extremely instrumental in advancing the new Scouts through the ranks. He has been to summer camp each of the last five years and spends many hours on the waterfront as a Life Saving merit badge counselor and chasing the Adventure Patrol from one session to the next. Please join Signal Hill in recognizing the unselfish devotion Terry extends in his everyday life.
