SCOUT EXECUTIVE'S MINUTE

Get Onboard! Dear Fellow Scouters:

It’s hard to believe that in the chill of January that I’d be writing about our upcoming summer camp season. However, that’s when Troops generally decide where and when they’re going to be attending Boy Scout Summer Camp. And Cub Scout Pack leaders begin thinking of the upcoming Cub Scout Day Camps as well as Cub Scout Resident Camps.

It is also that time of the year when parents begin their planning on when their sons (and daughters) will be attending summer camp, taking family vacations, attending summer school (or not), having seasonal jobs, and even making college visits. Our families and kids are no different and so we must be prepared.

To assist your local Scouting Unit (Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venturing Crews) in promoting all NWSC summer camping experiences we have engaged Don Hough as our council’s part-time Camp Marketing Intern. Don is the recent past Central Region Chief for the Order of the Arrow, a past OA Section Chief, and a former Lodge Chief of Lakota Lodge. During this past year, Don has traveled far and wide representing the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow.

In a phrase, “Don knows camping.” Don’s travels have taken him to many local council BSA camps. He can truthfully state that Napowan and Lakota are absolute “jewels in the crown” of all BSA camps in America. He has a passion for our council and its camps. He knows the great values that happen to kids who attend long-term camps. These values last a lifetime.

If you’re a Unit Leader (Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, or Advisor), Don will be contacting you shortly to plan a visit with your unit’s parents and youth members regarding camp. Hear him out. He has a tremendous message to share….one that will positively affect your unit and its future.

Please welcome Don Hough to your unit!

Best regards,
