Steven Taylor - Council Scout Executive As a longtime traditional Scout and Scouter (47 years total so far), I have always wondered why we permit Scouts and Scouters to think that it is okay to wear just half of a Scout uniform.

Wearing the full, complete, commonly referred to as a "Class A" uniform is a major part of the Scouting program. The uniform shirt provides a platform to place on badges of rank, earned awards, to show where you're from, and to which groups you belong. The various uniform hats offers protection from wind, rain, snow, and as a practical matter keeps you warm. The uniform socks are practical offering cushioning for long hikes and warmth as well as color coding to match the rest of the uniform. The sash either identifies the wearer as a member of the Order of the Arrow (and of which honor he has earned on the white sash) or the other sash is a home for the number of merit badges
